Low mist enveloped downtown Vancouver, bringing with it an unusual stillness to the water in Vancouver Harbour. I took a trip out to capture the morning sun as it lit the seaplanes down near the Vancouver Convention Centre, with the mist visible over the hills of North Vancouver in the distance.
I loved the reflections of these seaplanes against the still water. The seaplanes are a key feature of Vancouver life, and all through the daylight hours, if you are near the water you can see and hear them taking off and landing, a sight that I never get bored of no matter how often I see it!
I used my 10-stop ND filter to extend the shutter speed to 25 seconds and smooth out the water even more, showing the reflections of the seaplanes almost as if they are on ice. A high key black and white conversion seemed to work well to convey the tranquility of this scene.
