The top fifty photos from the Red Bull Illume action and adventure sports photography contest were exhibited at Jack Poole Plaza outside the Vancouver Convention Centre during the first week of February, one of only three stops across the world for this year’s exhibition.
The exhibit was only open at night, with the fifty photos each displayed on large, backlit lightboxes. The backlighting, combined with the superb photographs, makes for a stunning display.
I went to look at the exhibit during a cold spell in Vancouver, but by the time I’d admired the photos I was too frozen to take any of my own, so I headed back the following evening to grab some shots at blue hour. This panoramic image was taken from above the Cactus Club Cafe, and shows the exhibit with the North Shore mountains beyond. On the right is the Olympic Cauldron, with the water frozen at the edges from the continued cold weather.
